On June 8, the Dauphin County Anglers & Conservationist (DCAC) held its annual Youth Field Day which consisted of helping youth ages 8 through 12 to learn how to fish for trout. The special children’s section of Clarks Creek that runs through the organization’s grounds was heavily stocked with trout, and before the kids could fish for them, they would first receive basic instruction for how to become successful anglers.
Roughly 40 youngsters participated in the day’s event. Five organizations were on hand to provide the youngsters with instruction on fly casting and casting competition, fly-tying, stream biology, and general information regarding the life of a trout. The youngsters attended all the sessions, then had lunch and used their newfound knowledge to catch trout in this special project water. They had lots of success in the catching!
DFTU has been a perennial participant in this DCAC event, and this year chapter volunteers Rich DiStanislao, Greg Silva, Cyndi Camp, Steve Long, and Andy Link provided guidance for the kids who tied Green Weenies, and then used them to catch fish later in the day. The weather was perfect, and the field day was filled with fun.
