The 2020 Gerald L. Miller Outstanding Volunteer Award – which under normal circumstances would have been presented at our Annual Banquet in March – was presented to chapter member Jim Rauch on Facebook Live on September 10th. Chapter president Russ Collins asked Jim to help out with the Julie Szur raffle drawing – to validate the winning ticket – as a way to get Jim to be available so we could present the award to him. Needless to say, Jim was completely surprised.
Jim is a longtime chapter member whose volunteer work has consistently and substantially contributed to the attainment of the chapter’s mission to “conserve, protect, and restore the coldwater fishery resources of Dauphin and Lebanon counties” through hands-on involvement with a variety of chapter projects, including in late September standing in knee deep water for two hours helping to install a new filter on the chapter’s diversion well on Rausch Creek.
This award honors the tireless conservation work performed by the late Gerald R. (Gerry) Miller who died in 2013 after serving on both the chapter and PA State Council in a variety of roles since first becoming a TU member in 1999.
Congratulations, Jim! Keep up the great work for DFTU!
