DFTU will once again be sponsoring 3 participants from Dauphin and Lebanon counties. Cumberland Valley Trout Unlimited’s Rivers Conservation and Fly Fishing Youth Camp, celebrating its 30th year, is held at Messiah University in Grantham, PA. Any teenager with an interest can apply; they do not need to be pursuing a career in fields of stream conservation.
Boys and girls, between the ages of 14 and 17, are instructed in ecology, hydrogeology, wetlands, trout stream entomology, aquatic invertebrates, hydrology, watersheds, the biology of pollution, reptiles and amphibians, trout behavior, and riparian corridors and much more. They will also participate in a hands-on stream habitat improvement project.
But it’s not all work! Students will have daily opportunities to try and fool the clever trout in the Yellow Breeches Creek. They will learn from experienced fly fishermen (and women!). Many of the instructors are professional fishing guides, casting instructors, and fly tyers.
Deadline for EARLY REGISTRATION is December 31, 2024. For more information, and to apply, visit www.riverscamp.com
