Fortunately, unlike last year, we were treated to a gorgeous day for the 21 women who showed up to learn about the basics of fly fishing. Four stations were set up, with Amy Coen of TCO Fly Shops introducing the group to fly fishing clothing, Cyndi Camp demonstrating gear and knot tying, Lynn Langer identifying macroinvertebrates with Steve Long and Joe Notarangelo tying flies that imitate these insects, and Rich DiStanislao and his daughter Sarah providing fly casting instruction.
After everyone rotated through the four teaching stations, those women who chose to try out their newfound skills were guided by chapter volunteers, either fishing for trout on Clarks Creek or bass and bluegill fishing on the O’Gormans’ pond. Rounding out the day’s activities, each participant was treated to a grab bag of goodies donated by area businesses.
Kudos to Chapter Membership Chair Chuck Swanderski who organized this event, the O’Gormans who hosted us on their spacious property, and all of the chapter volunteers who helped to make this a fun and fulfilling day for the women who attended!
