SUMMARY:July General Membership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Take a visual tour of New Zealand at our July 23rd General Membership Meeting! Dr. Brett Ernst\, and his wife Mariann\, will “travel” with you on an epic journey through its north and south islands\, where you will experience the geology and cities\, birds and plants\, and of course trout. North island sight fishing at the Poronui lodge\, breathtaking scenery of Milford sound and a ride on the TSS Earnslaw commissioned the same year as Titanic are some of the other adventures that are waiting for you. SUMMARY:May General Membership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Special Guest Justin Spangler\, PE\n\n\n\nJoin us on May 28th for our General Membership Meeting\, with presenter Justin Spangler. He will discuss Pennsylvania’s streams having a long and storied history that spans generations and cultures – culminating as the streams we see today. \n\n\n\nWe’re often passive observers of what the stream has become\, rather than actively understanding the abundant resource that used to be. Justin’s presentation will look at the history of how these stream corridors were made long ago\, illustrate the characteristics of abundance in the natural condition\, and show examples of past alterations. He will also provide tips on how to read the evidence of relic features recorded in today’s stream banks. \n\n\n\nThis presentation will show how DFTU’s restoration project at Hammer Creek is actively incorporating these historical benchmarks into a comprehensive floodplain restoration to address the historical watershed impacts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJustin is a Water Resources Engineer and Senior Associate at LandStudies\, Inc. He has been collaboratively developing and progressing the collective understanding of floodplain restoration for the past 17 years\, specializing in the identification of historical impacts and producing comprehensive floodplain restoration designs. Justin has also produced educational materials and courses for several project partners and agencies including Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor those of you who have not joined us at the Community Club at Fort Indiantown Gap\, please be assured this is an excellent meeting location. We are in a large private room\, adjacent to the bar and grill; so many of our attendees arrive early for burgers\, beer and conversation before the program begins at 7:00pm. SUMMARY:Fly Fishing in Iceland with Dusty Wissmath
DESCRIPTION:As well as directing his own fly fishing school\, Dusty Wissmath heads the Orvis Fly Fishing School in Boiling Springs\, PA\, is an instructor at the Wulff School of Fly Fishing\, and served as the lead instructor at L.L. Bean’s Fly Fishing School in Virginia. He guides in Pennsylvania\, Virginia and Montana and hosts trips to fly fishing destinations worldwide. Dusty is a Simms and Costa Guide Ambassador and a Pro Staff member of Scott Fly Rods\, Hatch Reels\, Hyde Drift Boats\, ARC Fishing and a royalty tier for Holly Flies. His writing and photography can be found in several fly fishing publications. \n\n\n\nDusty will introduce us to the northeast coast of Iceland\, where he will share some of his most unique and memorable fly fishing experiences with us. The fishing will be for large brown trout and Arctic char\, primarily on dry flies\, and Atlantic salmon as they move in from the Arctic Ocean on their spawning journey. \n\n\n\nThe presentation will feature the Mýrarkvísl and Reykjadalsa which are relatively small rivers that hold a great stock of brown trout along with good runs of salmon throughout the summer.  These rivers run through plains for the first 15 km\, making them perfect for dry fly fishing. After that\, the rivers run through canyons which offer the opportunity to sight fish for trophy fish in the clear pools. Both rivers are tributaries of the Laxa which empty into Lake Vestmannsyatn about 5 km from the ocean. These rivers have an amazing character with such diversity that there is something for every angler\, whether fishing the plains with small dry flies and nymphs or swinging flies and sight fishing for salmon in the canyon pools.

SUMMARY:General Membership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:This month’s general membership meeting will feature two exciting presentations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe first will be by the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association\, which is responsible for our stream restoration funding grants. Executive Director Ted Evgeniadis’ presentation will cover projects and needs of the Susquehanna drainage. \n\n\n\nThe second presentation will be given by Lori Glace\, a conservation analyst and watershed specialist for the Cumberland County Conservation District. Lori has been invited to discuss the recently completed\, major streambank restoration project on the special regulations section of the Yellow Breeches. \n\n\n\nFor many fly fishermen in central Pennsylvania\, this stretch of the Yellow Breeches is “prime water\,” so we invited Lori to join us to show how this significant project was designed and implemented. It promises to be a most interesting program.
