DEP Awards Grant for Snitz Creek

On October 7th, the Department of Environmental Protection awarded $4.9 million in EPA Section 319 Nonpoint Source Management Grants to 23 projects that will help communities and the state’s environment by restoring impaired watersheds.

In Lebanon County, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection awarded the Doc Fritchey Chapter of Trout Unlimited $173,641. This award for the project — known as Snitz 3 — will fund the design and permitting for an un-named tributary of the Snitz creek located on Cornwall Road and Culvert Street in the Borough of Cornwall. This project is part of the stream restoration efforts in the Quittapahilla Watershed. Quittapahilla Watershed Association, in partnership with Doc Fritchey Chapter of Trout Unlimited, has been leading the charge to clean up and restore streams in this watershed for two decades.

The Doc Fritchey Chapter and the QWA have formed a powerful partnership. The Lower Snitz project, completed about two years ago, is a shining example in our portfolio. We are applying for Section 319 funding for Bachman Run near Fontana, PA. Stay tuned, as there’s certainly more to come.

Yours in conservation,
