Clarks Valley Highway Cleanup Scheduled for September 20th

Years ago, DFTU started to do a roadside cleanup (Adopt-A-Highway) along a two-mile stretch of the Fly-Fishing-Only section of Clark’s Creek on Route 325. This year’s annual cleanup is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, September 20th. We will start at 1:00 PM and be done by 3:00 PM.

Cleanup is a simple process. We provide trash bags and fluorescent vests. Please bring your own gloves. We split our volunteers into teams of two or three and walk along the shoulders of the highway, some teams going uphill and others downhill. Our DFTU volunteers pick up trash, litter, and assorted junk, with the intent of keeping that human-generated trash out of Clarks Creek. As you can imagine, each year we find some interesting stuff along the way, and we can show you the approximate point where sandwich bags and empty drinks cups from the Hardee’s in Dauphin first get tossed out of pickup truck windows.

If you are in the mood for a Sunday walk with like-minded people, please join us at 1:00 PM at the parking lot in the middle of the Fly-Fishing-Only section (on the left side, heading uphill). We will post a TU sign on the road before the turn into the parking lot. We never have enough volunteers, so if you are interested in helping, please contact Dennis Coffman at 717-350-8817 or email him at dcoffman@dftu.org to let him know you want to join us on Sunday, September 20th.

Following the cleanup, some of us will certainly take time to fly fish in the FFO section, so bring your gear.
