2019 “Home Waters” Veterans Event Recap

On June 8, our chapter hosted 20 veterans at our annual “Home Waters” fishing event. It was the 11th year that we have enjoyed spoiling veterans. The veterans were treated to a buffet luncheon provided by Applebee’s Restaurants, a goody bag with items donated by various businesses, and one-on-one guided fishing with our chapter volunteers.

One of the most beautiful and rewarding aspects of our Home Waters fishing event for veterans are the comments that we hear from them. This year, a veteran told one of our chapter members who guided him; “I had a great time and you are an awesome teacher. I actually became very comfortable fishing with both hands.” While we were in the stream, he said: “being in the water and listening…it is so peaceful!” He said just being there was like meditation.

“I had a great time and you are an awesome teacher. I actually became very comfortable fishing with both hands.”

In the past, one veteran’s wife told us that she has not seen her husband that happy in a long time. Also, the son of a veteran said that he has not seen his father smile like that … ever! Our veterans are so deserving, and it is comments like these that make this event so worthwhile.

Our thanks go out to RoseAnn Viozzi who organized this event, the O’Gormans for the use of their property, and all of our chapter members who provided instruction and guiding service for the veterans!
